ヤギ飼いの少年ペーター、ペーターのおばあさん等の人々。子ヤギのユキちゃん、おじいさんが飼っている犬のヨーゼフやヤギのシロ・クマ、樅の木を初めとした、大自然に生きる動植物達。厳しくも優しく、懐の深さを感じさせるアルプスの大自然。何より、共に暮らすおじいさんを通じ、ハイジは様々な事を知り、学び、健やかに育っていく。
