Fights between StageVu users

I am fairly new to this site, have a few friends, have commented on a number of videos, REALLY appreciate Stagevu and the work that goes into hosting and running it. Is there anything that can be done about some of the ongoing fights between several of the users. Maybe a temporary suspension of use - hard to implement I know - but, unless one is using a proxy server, it may work.
As of now, ......nik and .......nick are going at it, and some of the rants, if made in the open, and not behind our sort of anonymity, would be actionable (legally).  But, this always has been the Internet's major problem, online, everyone feels they can say what they want. In Canada, we are seeing more cases brought to court and winning - over libel/slander/defamation in postings online.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

If such catfights are found displeasing... don't read them?   Frankly I'm glad there is a corner of the world free from the pc police and the increasing shadow of the law, which is becoming more of a dark force in the world than anything else. Considering the indicated users could possibly be from different countries and legal jurisdictions any legal action could be impossible to enforce, a fact I am glad of, the law has better matters to be dealing with than petty catfights and minor slander.
Finally, before someone highlights the subject of children being exposed to this content, don't let your children on the internet unsupervised!
Freedom of speech is fine in theory but can backfire as the internet has proven time and again- the alternative is censoring in which case how far our we from the nanny state and right wing ideals??
Also, take it with a pinch of salt, I find some of the bitchfests amusing.

The only person i've had a sort of arguement with on here could be the nicest person in the world for all I know. He's certainly polite.
In the early days of the internet I used to post on hooligan websites that were set up to arrange fights...after a few years it always ends up that you'd meet the other posters for a drink rather than a fight.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

Well, I am not a neophyte when it comes to the vast array of site choices available, and how the internet has grown - from humble beginnings communicating across campuses to today - but, a "hooligan site" is news to me. (lol). I am guessing it is an European thing.
And the points made by lordoftheape are valid, we need this open form, this internet, to provide a check and balance to the system, to provide a ballast to democracy. Doing what I do for a living I am certainly not 'thin skinned', but I want to point out that when we make statements in public we have to be ready to back them up.
I have seen too many instances of internet postings being taken as 'gospel', and ruining otherwise innocent parties.
Anyhow, this is going a bit farther than I wanted, this is a great site, and again I thank all concerned that put so much time into uploading, hosting, etc!!

Re: Fights between StageVu users

eh, fighting between members is common on all sites.  it's impossible to avoid it.  the most that can be done is to curtail it, and even then, either the same ones start up again, or others fill the void.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

Fights, it always happens, even to the best of us. I have seen it happen to even the most respectable ppl here.  I personally dont care if they have their flame wars, just ignore it. But if this takes place on the forum then theirs a problem.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

the only fights that happen on the net are 'word fights'
thats all these people have.
they've no guts, bottle,or anything else for that matter.
people that start and participate in these pathetic arguments are cyber twats & should be totally ignored by everyone that comes across them.
better still just report all there comments.
if people dont reply to these idiots they soon get bored.

The best thing you will ever need on this site when it comes to instigation is the block button. I have been here long enough to know no matter what you do, how much good deeds you've done, how much help you've provided, you will always bug certain people (whether it's out of jealousy, insanity, anger or just pure boredom) and they will come to your profile to pick a fight or to provoke you, to instigate a response, no matter what. Therefore, just save your breath, ignore them or block them and move on. End of story.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

I thank you all for posting - digesthisickness - you are more knowledgeable than I about this - you are pretty prolific on the net and know what's up. The rest of you are longer time members and have seen this before.
I was just having a bit of a rant I guess when I posted originally - part of my problem was a recent court case where a judge actually took what he saw on the net - as the truth - and ignored what was really the truth - before him.
As I said before, this is my biggest concern with the internet - lol - I almost predate pc's, let alone the net - is the posting of misinformation, of lies, telling of tales that go viral and become the 'truth'. One of my favorite John Wayne movies  - The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - ends with 2 newspaper reporters talking, and one says - 'when the legend becomes accepted as the truth, print the legend'.
Anyhow, you are all correct, let's just ignore these 'wankers' - (hey, goonerfellow, I know some of your expressions - lol), and get on with enjoying this site!!!!!!!

It was big thing in the early days of the internet until they started handing out 4 year jail terms for arranging it online.
Anyway, that's got nothing to do with this site. The only arguements on here should be about the merits of a movie.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

Thanks lordoftheape, funny, you are the only one to 'twig' onto the rant connection. lol. Yes, it  is easy.
I think my formative years were long enough ago to be influenced by more staid, but, respectful social mores and graces. So my 'rants' are a bit more controlled.
I am enjoying this community, and I do like observing interactions between members. Some of these interactions are funny, I see members trying to help each other, and others.... Just a reflection of the real world we live in.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

If I am correct - this posting will elicit some of the type of inane diatribe so many of us receive whence we spend the time to get involved in something at StageVu other than streaming video. It is getting WORSE - not better. An example is: http://stagevu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=3390.
A valid discussion, many well thought out replies - Rosa, as usual has the most concise and 'proper' (not that ANY of the others were not!!) answer to actually HELP.
I may one day post a channel of responses so more members whom as of yet haven't seen this slightly 'hidden' side of StageVU, will now be able to.

Tempers always rise when the site's broken. At least those flame skirmishes die pretty quickly here. (Of course, parents usually are a little more persistent than others.)

if your referring to me your mistaken Grant.  I am no troll i just posted a question and was aggressively targeted by Mephisto. Now dont get me wrong i like a debate, but i didn't create the post with trolling in mind. Now its all over and from the point of view of the Admins i was right to report what i reported.
Overall this is a great site with lots of great people, sometime you just get side tracked.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

Well, I waited a while after Grant posted, just to see the response(s). I have been following the postings between candyman12, and others, I really enjoy the Forum - and all the view points. BUT - and I say this after looking at many member's postings, if you are really only espousing your views, as they pertain to the forum and questions posed - ok. Great. The way it should be. But those barely hidden, slightly alluded to - political agenda's, other rhetoric that has no reason to be here.

I refer to, and don't mean to single out only this poster, but - this isn't a needed postcript to your StageVu name:

This will only incite, inflame and generally ruffle feathers. Again, this isn't meant for or against only this poster, others may have similar, but I haven't seen it yet. If I want my eyes opened, let me find my own way. Please.

Re: Fights between StageVu users

oh my god oh my god oh my god. Candyman, Mephisto et al, I mean no disrespect, but you made your points a long, long, long, long time ago. If you and the other people involved in this dispute want to duke it out, take the battle to your profile pages and leave the rest of us out of it.
And I honestly don't understand how it is you Candyman seem to constantly run across this offensive material, I use this site a lot, and if it wasn't for these nauseating threads, I would not know the porn was here. I never run across it. So how come you do? And frankly, all this flaming probably only publicizes the fact that it is here.
Turn on Safe Surf, if you find a vid that is offensive, report it, let admins decide whether or not to remove it because that is their charge, not yours, and leave the rest of us out of this.

This is completely understandable. I know exactly where your coming from and many would agree with you. At the same time many people have thanked me and others for pointing them in the right direction, exposing them to other things. While i understand where your coming from you should understand that everyone doesn't have the same point of view. My signature is meant for those it is meant for.
I do respect your opinion though
