PS3 Help and Support 2.5

Note: As OF 4th Feb 2011 This Thread is no Longer Being Updated By Myself, Hopefuly The Information You Are Looking For Is Contained

As a lot of people here are using the PS3 i thought it would be helpful to open a thread dedicated to these users as we often have problems or questions which are different from the members using PC/MAC, and are sometimes misdiagnosed by the replyer as they was not made aware it is PS3 related.

Note: stagevu does not officially support the PS3 browser (Mozilla 5.0), so i and hopefully other PS3 users will be happy to try and help where the site admins cannot, but be aware certain features and plug-ins are not usable for the PS3.

A newcomers guide to PS3 downloads

Guide should not be used for Copyright Infringement.

Stagevu Downloading

Downloading from stagevu on PS3 is done slightly different than what the screen suggests needs to to be done, as it is designed for the DIVX Player for PC / Mac, Instead of pressing the 'Play' symbol to stream on the PS3 media Player simply press 'X' on download, to download to your HDD place cursor over download button press 'Triangle' 'File' 'Save Target' and select HDD.

Note: A small number of files will not play on PS3 and MKV is not supported, these files can still be downloaded using the PS3 and used on a compatible device by copying the unsupported file onto a memory card / flash drive.

Non Video Downloads

Direct Download PS3 XMB Themes

Note: Reapplying theme, in theme settings may display alternative backgrounds when available, themes with alternative backgrounds will display one randomly upon powering up.  Themes directly install to PS3 HDD,

Note: Downloading is at your own risk, using a non PS3 browser is also not advisable

Re: PS3 Help and Support 2.5

Swapping The PS3 Internal HDD

You may find your ps3 HDD filling up quickly so you may want to consider buying a compatible USB external hard drive which after purchase may need to be formated into a FAT32 format to be recognised as a compatible device.

You may also consider replacing the internal HDD in your PS3 this is a easy process as long as care is taken not to damage the PS3 or HDD, you will need to get a compatible 2.5" SATA hard drive commonly found in laptops and netbooks some may work out the box, but like the USB external HDD it must be in the FAT32 format or be formatted to it to be a recognised device.  Some internal HDD are able to be formated to FAT32 when installed in the PS3, but be aware a 1TB HDD will take about 15hrs to format and the PS3 must not be turned off during the formating process, so it is advisable to use a formating programme via a PC for drives over 500gb.

You can find a simple guide to changing the HDD here  http://stagevu.com/video/ynvseqhslirm

Accepting Friends Requests

Due to a bug PS3 users will find the facility to accept Friends Requests is not properly displayed on the Friends list, here is a 3 step guide to accepting Friends Requests.

Step 1.   On your Profile Page you will see a message located in the upper middle of page if you have been sent a Friends Request, click there to go to your Friends page

http://i37.tinypic.com/eaqvwg.png

Step 2.   You are now on your friends page where any pending requests are listed in the top section, as a bug prevents you from accepting here, you need to click the users picture to access their Profile Page.

http://i36.tinypic.com/tak200.png

Step 3.   Now you will be at the requesters Profile Page and in the upper right of the page you will see the options to Accept or  Reject the Friends Request or Block User, simply choose your option and all is complete.

Cinavia

What does Cinavia technology do?

Some releases of videos, television shows and other professionally produced video (such as those shown in video theaters, on commercial airliners, and in hotels 'on-demand' video services) are intended for duplication and playback on professional equipment only. Other releases (such as most Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and authorized downloads over the Internet) are meant for use on consumers in-home and mobile devices, but are not meant for copying by consumers, or are only permitted to be copied in limited ways (for example, to a limited number of computers, recordable discs, or devices). Cinavia technology is used in Blu-ray Disc players to identify and limit the use of copies of these videos, television shows, and other professionally produced videos that have been made without the permission of the copyright owner.

How does Cinavia technology work?

Videos protected by Cinavia technology carry inaudible codes embedded by the copyright owner in their audio tracks that indicate where and how they are allowed to be used. For example, videos that are being released to theaters can carry a Cinavia code that indicates that they are supposed to be duplicated by professional replicators and played back on professional projection equipment only. Videos that are released on Blu-ray Disc, DVD, or by authorized download services, can carry a different Cinavia code, indicating that these videos are intended for use by consumers, but with limitations regarding whether or how they can be copied. The Cinavia codes are designed to stay in the audio tracks wherever they appear, including after they are copied, converted to different formats, or captured by a camcorder.

Blu-ray Disc players read Cinavia codes from the audio track of video that they are playing or copying and may limit the use of the video when certain unauthorized uses are identified. Playback or copying of unauthorized copies may be stopped or audio may be muted, depending on which Cinavia code is found and what operation is being performed. This may include limiting the unauthorized use of the audio tracks that accompany professionally produced videos in home videos and other personal recordings. Whenever the use of content is limited due to a Cinavia code, an explanatory message is provided on the video screen or on the front panel of the Blu-ray Disc player. In any case, you can rest assured that Cinavia technology is not watching' what you are watching. By design, it can not collect or transmit information about you, your viewing habits or media selections. Cinavia codes are not individualized to you, the media, or the devices that you own and never contain any personal or personally identifiable information.

Firmware 3.40 update
Allows you to edit and upload videos from your ps3 hdd to the internet eg youtube facebook and of course Stagevu hurray! . You can only upload videos that were captured after the 3.40 update.

You can only upload to sites approved by Sony (currently facebook and youtube) stagevu does not meet the requirements of Sony and will never allow the PS3 to be used on video sharing sites like stagevu.

Re: PS3 Help and Support 2.5

how large a file does youtube allow you to upload ?
You could always upload a video to youtube and then from youtube to here (if you can still do that because keepvid doesn't work for me anymore)

Absolutely Must try Chronicle of Riddick, Arkham Asylum has similar stealth mechanics to SC maybe worth a look too.

Have you explored possibility of Cinivia blocking it for those who have taken the firmware updates, but not for those who did not, any other reason would be bizzare, possible, but still bizzare.

Sony do not allow video or audio uploading as a anti-piracy measure as they have to protect their interests in Sony Pictures and the Sony Music Group.

Re: PS3 Help and Support 2.5

Cinavia is embeded in the audio of Cinema DVD and BD, PS3 detects this because splice is i believe using cam audio which has the Cinema Cinavia embeded in it.

As for spending 80 on a PS3 you may consider the new Philips DVD Player with USB port for flash drives at only 35 in Argos.

Yes unless you format your system and dont retake firmware updates, but you will sacrifice your PSN access, but dont forget although they may not work on PS3 you can move them to a flash drive to use in another device.

On that subject i needed a new USB DVD player as my 1st Gen one had trouble with high bit-rate playback so i got this LG USB DVD player Works fine with files on USB stick but unfortunately it has a index limit of 600 files for Music / Video / Pictures, so not able to hook up my 1TB HDD.

Details have now been released regarding the implementation of Cinavia, the Cinavia programme was added in Firmware Update 3.10 November 19 2009.

I have never encountered a download error on here with a PS3 unless downloading multiple video from a single server, but have on other sites downloading a single file, this is usually caused by a small drop in connection coupled with the PS3 inability to resume downloads unless supported by the site. The unsuported data is usually caused by the PS3 inability to play some newer or older codecs.

If you want to know if the stagevu video is supported before download, simply press X on Download to stream on the PS3 media player after buffering, the video will either be supported and play or you will get the Unsupported Data error.
