Increased space for videos

I want to know if in the future will increase the limit that is for videos, and for example can upload videos of 3 or 4 gb.

Thank you. Stage Vu is the best

Re: Increased space for videos

if you can find a storage site that will let you upload that much you can url upload any size file.  Think the computer upload limit is there due to technical limits which I'm doubting will be changed / upgraded anytime soon.

Re: Increased space for videos

Its either because they cant have temporary files bigger then 2gb or that they dont have enough resources to hold them. Either way use url upload.

Here is a site that lets you upload a 10gb file : Filesavr

So why make a fuss about having more space if you cant even upload 2gb in a realistic time-frame?

well not right now you can't, the past couple of days even url uploads have been limited to 2GB

Re: Increased space for videos

Just out of curiosity, what type of file would someone be uploading that would be larger than 2gb? Would that kind of quality not be lost during the re-encode?

Re: Increased space for videos

not all videos uploaded get re-encoded, this will tell you what your video needs to be in order to bypass encoding http://stagevu.com/help#upload_noencode
although all videos uploaded pass through the encoders, if your video meets those requirements it won't be re-encoded by the encoders

Re: Increased space for videos

But they are limited to an overall combined bit rate of 750kbit/s as far as I can make out? If it comes in at a higher bit rate it will be re-encoded regardless of any other factor. So assuming that is correct, then a 2gb MPEG-4 video at 750kbit/s overall bitrate would have a duration of 5hr 30mins. So what could be that length?

I would have assumed that uploading a 2gb file of say 1hr30min duration would be a waste of upload bandwidth as it would be cut back to around 580mb after re-encoding? Or 2hours to abut 770mb? Any1 savvy on this end of things? Just trying to understand why 2gb would be insufficient in any case?

Re: Increased space for videos

true enough, but some uploaders believe that the more information that is there at upload, the better the quality after encoding, and in a small sence they are right. a BDRip comes out looking better than a DVDRip and a HDTVRip looks better than a TVRip after encoding. currently at upload time a 720p 60min video is about 1.2-1.4GB and a 1080p 60min video is about 2-2.4GB and BDRip movies are in excess of 2.5GB some are as much as 10GB.

viewers are requesting better and better quality from some of the uploaders, and those uploaders are trying to give it to them, but with the current encoding they can only give so much, yet when the site switches to the new encoding process a good number of those viewers won't be able to copy the videos to dvd and watch on their dvd players, which is their catch-22 of wanting better quality. lol

Re: Increased space for videos

I see. Maybe people would be better encoding themselves down to StageVU's limits with good software (probably better than StageVU's encoding) and then they would never have a problem with the 2gb limit.

That's what I would suggest to Taquillero. Saves bandwidth too. Yours and StageVU's. smile

Re: Increased space for videos

that's the big problem, most uploaders don't do their own encoding, mainly because of the time it takes

Re: Increased space for videos

By enforcing a 2gb limit, they are taking processing load off the servers. Maybe uploaders need to step up and use their own processing power (while also saving their bandwidth) and of course that's only if they want the minimal gains available by uploading BDrips. It's not a problem to most uploaders smile

-edit- Looks like I was completely wrong concerning the 2gb upload being enforced for a reason, however it is still true that by doing your own own encoding you would be saving your own and the sites bandwidth and taking processor load off the servers....

Re: Increased space for videos

We would like to remind you all to stay polite.

Regarding the file size limits, the limit is imposed by the scripting language we write our uploader in, and cannot be changed. However, the 2GB limit does not apply for URL uploads, so the above suggestions are correct.

Re: Increased space for videos

I have done my own encoding on some of my own videos, not all. Those which were of a high bit-rate when I acquired them I re-encoded to save bandwidth because I have upload limits and such to adhere to. Also it takes load off of the sites server's which are overstretched as it is and it get's my vid's published quicker.

Re: Increased space for videos

@phsource, hate to tell you but last couple days files over 2GB have been rejected on url uploading and some as small as 1.7GB have been rejected both on url and computer uploads, its not just one uploader having the problems, its a few of us.

Re: Increased space for videos

Hard drive errors caused this issue. This has since been corrected.
As for upload limits:
- The 2GB limit for uploads from your computer is a technical limitation. We don't really want to go to the lengths to change that, so it will remain.
- URL uploads have a very high limit (that no reasonably-sized video should ever hit; >10 GB).
