Viewing Videos
How to View Videos
Stagevu serves all of its videos using the DivX Web Player, courtesy of DivX. The DivX Web Player is an application which allows the streaming of DivX and similar-format videos from web servers.
In order to stream videos from Stagevu, you must have the DivX Web Player installed. You may install the latest version by downloading the installer for your platform on the right.
Linux users: unfortunately, there is no version of the DivX Web Player for Linux. However, all videos should be also streamable using the Linux MPlayer browser plugin, which you can install using the package manager of your distribution.
403 Forbidden Errors
Symptoms
- DivX Web Player: The file you are trying to play has failed to finish downloading and can no longer play.
- DivX Web Player: The video cannot be reached (403 error): it appears the server is denying access to the file.
- Browser: a dialogue box asking for an username and password appears.
- Browser: a page saying "403 Forbidden" appears.
Due to our content protection system, some users may receive a "403 Forbidden" error when trying to access our videos. Please make sure that you are receiving this error while using an official Stagevu embed or browsing on the Stagevu site.
Also, please note that sometimes, the number of restrictions to one of our servers may be restricted. If you are using a downloading manager or have multiple videos open, try closing one of them first or changing the settings.
This page will diagnose the reason why you cannot view videos using legitimate means.
Your referrer information is not being sent. To turn off referrer blocking, try disabling or making exceptions for Stagevu in any antivirus or firewall software you have. If you are also behind a proxy, you will not be able to view any videos on Stagevu. This may also be an error: click here to try again

Downloading Videos
Often, when you click on the "Download" link, your browser may attempt to open the video in its default media player. In Windows, this is Windows Media Player; in Mac OS X, it is Quicktime.
To actually be able to download a file in these situations, right click on the Download button, and click "Save as..." or "Save Target As...". A dialog box should then appear asking you for where to save it to.
Slow Loading of Videos and Incomplete Downloads
We're sorry about the slow speeds and broken downloads at times, which occur because our servers are often overloaded. We are working toward resolving this issue. Note that you can also press the start button to start the video before the buffering is done, but this often means that you'll have to buffer again later. Alternatively, you can simply Download the video and wait it to finish.
For videos that are not completely downloaded, you can often watch them offline by right-clicking on the file that ends with .part. Hover your mouse over Open With, and select your media player of choice.
Video streaming stops part way
Occasionally, your connection to our servers may break, either due to a technical issue on our end or an issue with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). In these cases, the video may not completely download.
We recommend you clear the cache of your DivX Web Player by right clicking on the player and selection Preferences while viewing a video, going to the "Download cache" tab, and pressing the Clear cache button. Then, you may allow the video to buffer again.
Watch Downloaded Videos Offline
Many systems today already provide support for watching the videos downloaded using the download button off of Stagevu; however, some systems require special procedures to get the appropriate software to play the videos.
On Windows
We recommend the K-Lite Codec Pack for Windows users. The basic pack should already be sufficient, and we recommend the use of the included Media Player Classic.
On Linux
Most Linux platforms can play Stagevu videos offline with the use of the appropriate GStreamer codecs and Totem. However, an excellent alternative is MPlayer, which can be found on many package repositories.
On Mac OS X
On Macs, many more videos can be played on Quicktime after getting Perian, which contains support for pretty much any video format.
If none of these work, then feel free to use the VLC Media Player, which is available for Linux, Windows, and Mac.
SafeSurf
Stagevu's SafeSurf system is a way to filter out certain potentially sexually-oriented content on Stagevu. When SafeSurf is enabled, all videos and channels in the Sexy category are hidden from search results, and are forbidden from being viewed.
SafeSurf is turned on by default, when you are not logged in. To disable SafeSurf:
- Register as a user of Stagevu
- Go to your Account Info page and check the "Disable SafeSurf" checkbox. If you a minor, you must check with your parents!
- Save your changes, and make sure a green box appears confirming that the change has been made.
Note that we do not guarantee that SafeSurf will filter out all suggestive videos, as it's ultimately up to the video submitter to label the video with the Sexy category.
I can't find the videos I want on the "Browse" or "Videos" page
The "Videos" and category pages linked to at the top of the page only contains a small portion of our videos for technical reasons.
To find the videos you are looking for, we highly recommend you search by using the look for: box at the top of pages, or by using our powerful advanced search functions. On the search pages, you may also sort by criteria such as views, the date the video was submitted, and much more.
Still can't find what you're looking for?
Contact us about it if it really isn't here.
