Written by Sam Dunn & Scott McFadyen. Features mostly rock of the Heavy Metal & Hardcore genres and the sub-genres they spawned. Begins with roots of heavy metal i.e. Black Sabbath. Lots of interviews with heavy metal musicians of primarily Euro & N. American bands & their fans (some interviews he does with some of the psycho Norwegian Black Metal Bands are hilarious!). They followed-up this documentary with a 2nd. Rockdoc "Global Metal" (2008) in which they present the heavy metal scene/lifestyle focused mainly on Asia, Mid-East, and S. Americas. This 1st. of the two is the better one in my opinion. Sam & Scott also wrote the 2009 Rockdoc "Iron Maiden: Flight 666" (which documents Iron Maiden's 2008 World Reunion tour -a little dry to me) & Sam along with Scott McFadyen, just finished the Rockdoc "Rush: The Documentary," also known as "Rush: Beyond the Lighted State" which chronicles the career of Canadian progressive rockers Rush (already open in some theaters beginning April 8, 2010 -something to look for!). A FACTUAL ERROR in film: Dunn mentions the "Filthy 15", a list of bands with lyrics considered obscene. Sam mentions that, of the 15, 8 are metal bands- he miscounted. Upon reviewing the list, Danish black metal band Mercyful Fate make the list but bumps the count to 9 bands. They are also not highlighted in film like the the other bands on the list.
