...stars James Stewart as Tom Jeffords, an ex-army scout with a conscience who embarks on a one-man peace mission with the, Apaches following ten years of war between settlers and Indians.
Forming a diplomatic partnership with righteous Apache leader Cochise (Jeff Chandler), Jeffords later falls in love with an Indian girl who he marries in an Apache ceremony. He then brokers a three month truce with Conchise that is broken by renegade settler attacks before a lasting peace treaty is renewed.
