/1997/ Max Brackett kiváló oknyomozó riporter: agresszív, fáradhatatlan, intelligens, aki mindig éppen azt a sztorit szállítja, amit a közönség látni akar. De elég csak egyetlen pillanat, egy rossz pillanat, amikor nem azt teszi, amit elvárnak tőle, és Max már repül is. Sam boldog, kiegyensúlyozott ember - egészen addig, amíg el nem veszti az állását. Amikor ugyanis csökkenteni kell a múzeum kiadásait, a múzeum igazgatónője először tőle szabadul meg. A férfi azonban ezt képtelen elfogadni, nem tudja elmondani a rossz hírt a feleségének. Ezért újra felkeresi az igazgatónőt, hogy visszakövetelje régi munkáját. Mrs. Bank azonban nem hajlandó meghallgatni őt. És ekkor Sam fegyvert ránt... Max, a riporter mindennek véletlenül szem- és fültanúja, hiszen éppen az igazgatónővel készített riportot. Max és Sam is úgy érzi: élete nagy és talán utolsó lehetősége elott áll.
