I saw this in the theater when it came out. I was only 10 years old, and it was a huge deal! I have seen Earthquake more than a dozen times since, and even though I have noticed Walter Mathau's nearly silent cameo, tonight was the first time that I ever paid attention to the credits (something that one does when they get older, I guess) . Anyway, I just noticed that in Earthquake, Mathau is credited under his birth name, "Walter Matuschanskayasky". There were a lot of big name actors in this film; I guess Walter wanted to be the biggest name actor here! I am sorry, that was a poor attempt at humor

One of three movies in the 70's originally released in "sensaround". The other two films were "Midway" and "Roller Coaster". Also part of the wildly successful disaster movie genre. Interesting trivia: two of the three sensaround films stared Charlton Heston, the other was Midway and Heston's character dies in both films.
