In this Cutting Edge documentary, Sue Bourne tells the story of an ordinary day in modern Britain through the births, marriages and funerals that take place in one city over twenty-four hours. Filmed in Bristol on the longest day of 2008, this documentary explores landmark events in the cycle of life. Ordinary people go through life-changing events in this moving and revealing snapshot of 21st-century Britain. And as these intensely personal moments unfold, the rest of the world carries on its usual business on what is, for others, just another ordinary day. After 13 years together, Shell and Mel are getting married. For Mel, it is the fulfilment of a dream to have her father - who's been ill for many years - walk beside her to give her away. Martin Cripps, who died at 26, is buried today - an increasingly rare decision as Britain's cemeteries fill up - and his family are struggling to come to terms with his untimely death. And as the dead are buried, new lives come into the world, including baby Brooklyn to delighted teen parents Anthony and Emma.
