Politicians use legitimate points of the green movement to line their and their friends pockets (e.g., Solyndra), while suppressing the actual viable promising avenues of R&D (e.g., zero-point energy, 99% efficient generators, wireless energy), then promoting nonsense pseudo-environmentally-conscious campaigns under the guise of sustainability (e.g., mercury light bulbs).
Unfortunately the sheeple public have too much faith in government to know the difference between environmental stewardship and fleecing of the populace (and between patriotism and government terrorism, for that matter).
