...「ホタル」 激動の昭和を生き抜いた特攻隊の生き残りである男と、その妻の人生を描く人間ドラマ。監督は「鉄道員」の降旗康男。脚本は、「義務と演技」の竹山洋と降旗監督の共同。撮影を「鉄道員」の木村大作が担当している。主演は、「鉄道員」の高倉健と「ざわざわ下北沢」の田中裕子。東映創立50周年記念作品。
鹿児島県知覧。カンパチの養殖を生業としている山岡は、肝臓を患い透析を続けている妻・知子とふたり暮らし。子供がいない彼らは、漁船“とも丸"を我が子のように大切にしている。激動の昭和が終わり、平成の世が始まったある日、山岡の元に青森に暮らす藤枝が雪山で自殺したとの報せが届いた。山岡と藤枝は共に特攻隊の生き残りだった。
