i really love this movie iv seen it 100 times and it is still very good
even though it is from 1964 you cant really tell because it is played in a much earlier period and that makes this movi timeless! in a 100 years you can still see this movie and enjoy it without it becaoming outdated.

...And if you listen to the director's comments on the DVD collection (buy it!) Sir Stanley Baker said that those fighting warriors had such good fun falling down when "shot, that they waiting till the camera moved, got up, and fell down again in another artistic heap with another yell of si gi di (Kill!)!
A 5 starrer!

Michael Caine's first major motion picture - and still ne of his best!! Absolutely spot on in terms of armament, although I am sure there are experts out there who will find some flaws in uniforms - straps crossed wrong, and the like, overall the rifles are period, the ammunition does run out (I hate movies where every rifle or pistol has inexhaustible supplies of ammo) and the story is TRUE.
So liberty was taken with the characters, nothing too major.
Side note: filmed in South Africa during the height of apartheid, the (African) extras, some of whom were direct descendants of the real Zulu warriors who fought this battle, weren't allowed to attend the premier of the movie in their own country.
We have come a long way since then!!
