The photo here depicts an allied ship because it has an official ship number designation at the BOW....German capital ships I think did not.....

when I saw this movie on dvd, there were portions of the battle that were not authentic enough to see that it was the GRAF SPEE....well its quite understandable though, maybe documentary files with regards to this "panzer Schiff " (armoured ship) which maybe possibly lost at the closing days of the war. I still give benefit to the scene of the actual ship being scuttled at the port of Montevideo in the country of Uruguay.

I thought his bit of fluff was disappointing. Life in the prisoner hold of the Graf Spee didn't hold my interest; I was more interested in the maneuvers that were necessary to trap her in the Plate estuary. The acting was OK, but the battle scenes were not very good, and the USS Salem did not look like nor was very convincing as the German pocket battleship.
