Apoc. began in '93 as 4 Celloists & fellow graduates of Sibelius Music Academy, Helsinki, Finland. Their music ranges from classical/neo-classical metal, to symphonic goth. They released debut album (1996) called "Apocalyptica Plays Metallica by Four Cellos." consisting entirely of Metallica covers: Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, Harvester of Sorrow, The Unforgiven (I), Sad but True, Creeping Death, Wherever I May Roam, and Welcome Home (Sanitarium). Current lineup is Eicca Toppinen – cello, Paavo Lotjonen – cello, Perttu Kivilaakso – cello, Mikko Siren – drums. They have since had several albums W/guest musicians/sessions players appear on various tunes, including: Dave Lombardo (Slayer – drums), Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil - vocalist for Download Festival Tour 2008), Adam Gontier -vocals (Canadian rockers Three Days Grace), Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour -vocals on “I'm Not Jesus” video, Matt Tuck of Bullet for My Valentine -album only vocals on “Repressed,” Max Calavera of Sepultura/Soulfly & Nailbomb -vocals on "Repressed" video, Till Lindemann of Rammstein -vocals on “Helden,” Nina Hagen -vocals on “Seemann” (Rammstein cover) video & Ville Valo of Finland rockers HIM -vocals on "Bittersweet." What I find amazing is they have yet -as far as I know- to have anyone from Metallica featured on any songs. Strange considering they got their fame doing Metallica covers!
