...Spiderbait from New South Wales "Down Under" covers Black Betty (2004), the old Ram Jam tune (1977), which is itself a cover of a military cadence made popular as an African-American work/folk song sung by the railroad "chain gang" originally credited to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter 1939. Spiderbait's vers. reached No. 1 in Austrailian top ten. Ram Jam's cover of this tune in 1977 reached number 18 on the singles charts in the US and top ten in Australia. At the same time, the lyrics became the cause of a boycott by civil rights groups NAACP and Congress of Racial Equality, who claimed it insulted black women.
Was also featured in a commercial for the Larry Flynt Hustler Strip Club located in Westminster, California, several movies & video games.
