Второе задание для Джеймса Бонда это спасти и вывезти из социалистического государства русского агента, красавицу владеющую тайной сверх секретного шифровального аппарата Лектор, а также сам аппарат. В легко протекающую комбинацию вклинивается неизвестный до сих пор агент № 1 Спектра, Эрнест Ставро Блофелд.
В его задачу входит не только обострить отношения между Великобританией и Советским Союзом, вернуть в Россию Лектор за большое вознаграждение, но также отомстить за смерть Доктора Ноу, заманив Бонда в хитроумную ловушку.
