...Original video. Simply an awesome song! MTV only played this vid late night because of the barely noticable nude pin-up posters on the studio walls. Lars is also seen in the vid throwing darts at a picture of Kip Winger (can U blame him!...lol).
James initially wrote this song for his family to mean that "no matter how far" he was (since Metallica spent most of their time away on tours), he was still "so close" to them in spirit. He considered it a very personal song and was not going to publish it, until Lars heard it and wanted it on the "Metallica" album. The rest is history. Now Metallica considers it a song dedicated to all their fans and it has become a staple of their live performances. It's one of the few Metallica songs in which James, rather than Kirk, plays the guitar solo. Apocalyptica does an excellent & popular Cello cover of this tune.
