Good watch, very old style. Typical Siney performance of that decade but not one of his better performances because of the character and what/ & how much he says in the movie. Although it is an opputunity to view his acting talent. Very strong " situation " as they always call it in the movie- but the racial tension is very light if at all there. Nothing too emotional. Thanks ok- good quality upload. P.s *spoiler* that maid and her objections is the only thing that really annoyed me

I haven't watched this again yet, but I remember finding Tilly the maid's reaction to John one of the most surprising.
Did she have the attitude that black people weren't good enough to marry whites and that they should 'know their place'? It's just that she was actually really angry with him, or was it that she felt he was rejecting black girls as 'not good enough' for himself and had 'delusions of grandeur'...like a traitor to his own race? Hopefully I'll understand better second time around as I was only about 10 when I first saw it.
I absolutely loved watching the chemistry between Kate and Spencer, those tears were genuine as he was gravely ill at the time and actually died within days of the film's completion. It's bizarre that Spencer never divorced his legal wife despite finding a soulmate in Kate with whom he lived - because of his somewhat hypocritical Catholic 'values'.
