Willie has been doing an extremely taxing but rewarding task… He has been feeding stray cats for the last 22 years. And he never missed a day! Meet Willie Ortiz! Willie Ortiz is a scrap metal worker who for 22 consecutive years feeds nearly 70 neighborhood feline cats! 19. A large Part Of His Income

Willie’s task isn’t easy nor cheap. He uses the majority of his income to feed the poor animals but despite the difficulties he doesn’t step back. It is even more impressive to think that he never missed a day for 22 years! Click next to find out about his everyday routine!

18. Every Day

Every day, at around 7 PM in the evening. Willie drives in his van full of cat food to a few cat colonies in the area he resides. For 22 years this task has been a part of his routine and he has never missed a day!

Willie has to also deal with the locals as his act of feeding the cats have gathered them all to specific locations. He’s often receiving threats and his acts sabotaged but he doesn’t seem to bother.”I saw a lot of stray cats, and people were pushing them and kicking them,” Ortiz says.

Begin a scrap metal worker, finding income for such an expensive task isn’t easy. “He’s on the search everyday for discarded scrap metal,” Kathleen Schlentz said to gofundme.

Willie usually drives around the town, collecting scraps to sell and uses the majority of his earnings to buy cat food. Whenever he can find something that can be sold, he puts it on Craigslist. But what are the motives of Willie? Click next to find out!

12. Puerto Rico Native

Willie, while being in Puerto Rico started feeding stray cats in 1995 after he saw a stray cat begging for food from a customer of his shop. “People were pushing it away, and I could see it needed help,” Willie says. “I know these cats can’t understand my accent, but I need to do something.”

Willie’s heart melted and he devoted his life to feed stray cats that lived in the cold city streets where food can’t be found easily. He took an oath to never let a stray kitten be hungry again!

Willies actions don’t stop at only feeding the cats. He provides shelter and care for them as well as water and taking care of the sick or injured cats.

“They need help,” Oritz said. “I want to make sure they have food and that they stay healthy.”

Recently Willie tried to employ some new strategies to increase his income hence the cat food he can buy. He started collecting scrap metal by cleaning people’s yards. Locals say he spends the whole day doing it.

7. He’s Not Alone

Fortunately, Willie gets a lot of assistance from Schlentz. They helped him build a website and start a crowdfunding campaign in order to raise money and awareness for stray cats!

6.  Personal Toll

All of these acts have taken a personal toll on him but while looking at the sad faces of stray kittens that lay beneath the abandoned trucks and cars he realizes that he can’t step back.

5. He Does The Heave Work

“He works hard physically, and I don’t know how he does it,” Schlentz said. “He’s been doing this for years, and the cats have been fed every single day.”

4. Willie’s Own Cat

You wouldn’t be surprised if you learned that Willie has his own kitten. “He’s slowing down but he can still jump into Willie’s truck and get some love and cuddling from his daddy.”. He rescued him some years after he began his mission.

3. Colonies

“The colonies are always changing,” Schlentz says. “Sometimes cats get hit by cars, or they don’t make it through the winter, and other cats wander in, or people drop them off when they can’t take care of them, or don’t want to take care of them. So the colonies change all the time.”

2. A Selfless Man

Willie is known to be humble and selfless not only to kittens but to humans too! Some people asked him “Why do you spend your money on cats?’ And he said, ‘Because they’re cats.'”

“People ask me why I feed them every day, or tell me I feed them too much,” Ortiz says. “You eat every day, no? You get three meals; they eat once every 24 hours.”
